Pennsylvania Gambling Revenue Up in July Despite Some Declines

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s gambling income in the seventh month of the year saw a 1.3% surge compared to the same period last year, even though several segments of the state’s brick-and-mortar gambling industry experienced a downturn.

The state’s overall revenue for July reached $429.1 million, slightly exceeding the $423.7 million recorded in July of the previous year, and also marking a 10.1% increase from the $389.8 million generated in June.

Traditional slot machines remained the primary revenue source for the state’s operators, generating $213.9 million, representing a 4.0% decrease year-on-year. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board also observed a 0.3% decline in revenue from land-based table games, reaching $86.7 million.

However, these decreases were counterbalanced by year-on-year growth in other areas, including the online gambling sector, which witnessed an 11.2% rise in revenue to $98.6 million. This included $71.9 million from online slots, $23.9 million from internet table games, and $2.8 million from online poker.

Hollywood Casino, a Pennsylvania-based partner of DraftKings, led the way with $38.6 million in revenue, followed by Rivers Casino Philadelphia, a partnership with Rush Street Interactive, at $24.7 million, and then Valley Forge Casino Resort, a partnership with FanDuel, at $17.5 million.

In other areas, sports betting revenue also saw a significant increase of 28.1% to $25.4 million, fueled by the 10th.

The state of Pennsylvania saw a 5% surge in gambling income, reaching a total of $336.5 million. Online sports betting brought in $22.6 million, while traditional retail betting generated $2.8 million.

Valley Forge, in collaboration with FanDuel, took the lead in the sports betting sector, securing $12.2 million in revenue. They outpaced Hollywood Casino Meadows’ Barstool Sportsbook, which earned $4.6 million, and Hollywood Casino Penn National and DraftKings, which jointly garnered $1.6 million.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board also reported a decline in video gaming terminal revenue, dropping 3.7% to $3.6 million for the fiscal year. Fantasy sports contest revenue also experienced a significant decrease, falling 45.3% to $27.3 million.
