Grand National Weekend Sees UK Bookmakers Rake in Over £75 Million in Profits

UK betting operators likely saw a substantial windfall exceeding £75 million from the recent Grand National weekend, as per insights from the betting analysis platform bettingexpert.com.

With an estimated £35 million in wagers placed on the Grand National race itself, bettingexpert.com predicts that bookies enjoyed a profit margin of at least £75 million on Saturday alone. This significant revenue was driven by an average profit of £2.84 per bettor for prominent UK bookmakers, according to aggregated figures.

The analysis further indicates that bookmakers consistently held the advantage throughout the three-day Aintree festival, averaging over £16 in profit per client. Friday’s Ladies Day emerged as the most profitable, with operators securing an average of £11 per customer, in contrast to £2.33 on Thursday and £2.84 on Saturday.

The surge in betting activity saw users placing an average of 7.5, 10.3, and 7.9 wagers per day across the three days of the Grand National meet. The average wager amount per bet remained relatively stable, fluctuating between £9.10 and £9.20.

These numbers reflect a continuing pattern of bookmaker profitability, as data from bettingexpert.com last month showed that operators earned an average of £3.21 per customer following the Cheltenham Festival.
