Aussie Rules Football icon Wayne Carey is facing scrutiny after being removed from Crown Casino in Perth for supposedly possessing a white substance.
The material allegedly tumbled from Carey’s pocket recently, with the retired athlete maintaining it wasn’t an illicit narcotic.
The 51-year-old states the powder was actually anti-inflammatory medicine he’s been using for discomfort control. He further explains that he offered to surrender the pouch of medication to personnel once it dropped.
“I want to be unambiguous, there were no transgressions on my part at all. I’m let down,” Carey stated.
“They [Crown] had a couple of chances to contact law enforcement – if there was [a drug] violation they would have contacted law enforcement.”
Crown Resorts’ latest CEO Ciarán Carruthers has disputed Carey’s narrative, informing regional news outlets that the footballer’s rendition of occurrences is “contradictory” with what Crown employees have documented.
“Any visitor who is requested to depart or barred from any Crown premises is handled in line with our terms of admittance, our regulations and protocols,” Carruthers said.
“I’m additionally cognizant that at the moment, they didn’t recognize it was Wayne Carey – he was a guest, just like any other, within the casino. He was situated at a gaming table.”
